Texas Flash Floods: Death Toll Rises Above 50 as Search for Missing Campers Continues

Trend Rage – Catastrophic flash floods in central Texas have now claimed at least 51 lives, including 15 children, as rescuers push into a second night searching for dozens more missing campers.

Heavy storms late Friday dropped over a foot of rain in under two hours. The Guadalupe River surged up to 29 feet in just 45 minutes, sweeping away cabins, RVs, and roads near Kerrville and Hunt.

Camp Mystic, a long‑standing Christian summer camp on the river, was especially hard hit. Authorities say 27 girls remain missing, alongside several adults who were caught off guard. Among the confirmed dead are camp veterans who stayed behind trying to help others.

Rescue teams — using helicopters, boats, drones, and dogs — have pulled more than 850 people to safety. But with floodwaters carrying debris and heavy rain still falling, officials warn the search could shift soon from rescue to recovery.

Governor Abbott has declared a disaster in 21 counties and secured federal support. He promised the operation will be relentless until every person is accounted for.

Locals describe scenes of total destruction — cabins torn apart, personal belongings strewn across mud‑filled banks. The rage of nature struck fast and caught everyone by surprise, even with early warnings from the National Weather Service.

As the community grieves and hopes, the focus remains on locating the missing and learning how this tragedy overtook a well-loved holiday spot.
