Chase just dropped a bomb in the premium credit card world. Starting June 23, 2025, the annual fee for the Chase Sapphire Reserve skyrockets from $550 to $795—a full $100 more than the Amex Platinum’s $695 fee.

But it’s not just about the cost. Chase is loading the card with perks designed to soften the blow:

$500 hotel credit when booked via Chase Travel

$300 dining credit through the Reserved by Sapphire network

$300 for StubHub or viagogo tickets, plus up to $250 Apple Music/TV+ and $120 Peloton credit

One-time Points Boost benefit offering 2× points on select flights and luxury stays—up to 2 cents per point

For travelers who max out these perks, the annual fee could be justified. But the steep price tag makes this card a tough pill to swallow for casual spenders. The card now mirrors a Coupon Book—full of value, but demands attention to use it fully

In the Trend Rage world, the takeaway is clear: Chase is playing hardball in the premium card arms race. Will consumers bite? Or will the complexity drive them back to simpler loyalty cards?
